The Westray Learning Centre has two dedicated rooms within the Healthy Living Centre Building – the main Learning Centre, and a smaller room with videoconferencing equipment. Computer equipment has been provided by Orkney College and the internet line by University of the Highlands and Islands. Westray Development Trust strongly supports the Learning Centre through Coordinator wages, some expenses, and the training grants that are available to Westray residents.
The main focus of the Westray Learning Centre project is to increase the availability of locally delivered courses. This is particularly important for local businesses as it both reduces the expense of having to send staff to Kirkwall for training (which often means an overnight stay), and means less staff time away from the business.
