Westray is one of Orkney’s northern isles. With an area of 18.2 square miles it is Orkney’s sixth largest island. The main village is Pierowall.

Westray has a population that hovers around 600 and this supports a fairly complete civil infrastructure catering for most modern needs.
The island has a school, a doctors surgery, three general goods shops, a hotel, heritage centre, a bank (two days/week), a post office and sub-post office, a crab processing factory, a salmon farm and two art galleries.
Cash can be obtained from both post offices.
Wifi is available in some public areas and the 4G mast on Gallowhill provides fast broadband and mobile phone coverage to most of the island.
Work is predominantly in farming and fishing with tourism mainly in the summer months providing extra income.
